VIHFA Celebrates Housing Month in June

Weekly Webinars Planned, Job Fair Scheduled

U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Island Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) celebrates Housing Month June 2021. All monthlong the VIHFA will highlight the importance of homeownership and providing safe, decent, and sanitary housing to the people of the USVI.  The VIHFA’s mission is to increase access to housing and its vision is to be the premier self-reliant housing and community development agency in the territory.

“Here at VIHFA, we champion homeownership and housing causes every day. We have taken on the large haul of disaster recovery programs, but we remain dedicated to our core mission. Safe, sanitary, and affordable housing is paramount to the welfare of families and the community at-large, said Executive Director Daryl Griffith. “We’ve also added a workforce development component because gainful employment is the key to financial stability and homeownership opportunities.”

Homeownership Webinars

The Homeownership Division will be conducting weekly webinars via Zoom covering topics relating to homeownership preparedness.  The following webinars will be held live at 10 a.m. and published to the VIHFA’s Facebook page at 6 p.m.:

  • June 1:      Understanding Credit
  • June 4:      Budgeting: Your Financial RoadMap
  • June 14:     Financial Fitness
  • June 21:     Keys to Homeownership

Job Fair

Also, in celebration of Housing Month, the VIHFA in partnership with the Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA) is hosting a Disaster Recovery Job Fair. This year’s theme titled, “Jobs Now and Beyond Disaster Recovery” illustrates how this fair will help inform the community of the programs and vacancies available through disaster recovery grants. The job fair will be held on Thursday, June 22 in St. Croix at the St. Croix Educational Complex and on June 24 in St. Thomas at the Tutu Park Mall.  Both events will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Government agencies and semi-autonomous entities such as the Office of Disaster Recovery, Department of Labor, VITEMA, etc. will be participating in the job fair.
